Turkey is a country in the northwest region of Asia and Europe. It borders Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Armenia. Mesopotamia is also on Turkey’s eastern border. The capital of Turkey is Ankara; Istanbul is the largest city. So much for its rich history: Turkey has been ruled by various empires throughout the centuries namely, the  Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Ottoman Empire, and the Republic of Turkey (1923). It was, at first, ruled by a Christian empire but eventually led to their demise. Turkey is now predominantly a muslim country with minorities of christian people. They all speak Turkish and use Turkish Lira as their currency.

However, this country became more popular not only with its history but with its most famous products: carpets. In Turkey, carpet production is one of the biggest industries. They often produce luxurious carpets made out of high-quality materials such as wool or silk. In fact, this was even more popularized when the story of Aladdin came into picture with him riding the magic carpet with the princess Jasmine.

Turkey and its Touristy Spots

What is good about this country is that aside from promoting the picturesque sceneries of each destination, they also promote their local handicrafts. For instance, they turn their factories or small industries into “a must” travel destinations. One of which is the Kapadokya Ceramik. This place provides a showroom for the tourists comprising its products such as vases, plates, and even pots with designs associated with their culture.

In addition, you may also want to visit “The House of Mary” especially if you are a devotant. It is believed that this is the last place Mary stayed on before she died. However, If you are not the religious type, you may be more interested in sight-seeing of Cappadocia from the sky. It is a geological wonderland and no words can describe its beauty so you have to see it for yourself.

Second, the food is distinct and to die for. One of the famous served dishes would be the pottery kebab. It can be made out of pork, chicken, and beef. They marinade the meat and put it in a clay pot and bake it. The use of clay pot seemed to have introduced added flavors to the dish. Apparently, aside from promoting local handicrafts, they also value tradition as much because this way of cooking dates back to 4,000 years.

The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.Traveling is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.I believe in traveling. I think it’s important to get as far away from where we live as possible because it gives us new ideas, new perspectives on what we see every day.

– Anthony Bourdain

Lastly, while it is a predominantly muslim country, some of the famous written and even read places in the bible can literally be found in Turkey particularly Ephesus. It is the remains of the structures built during the roman empire thousands of years ago. It was once the center of trade in the ancient world but is now included in UNESCO World Heritage List. It is located 30 km away from Kusadasi, Turkey.
