Malta holidays

Malta is an island nation found in Europe. It has a population of about 400,000 people and it is less than 100 square miles in size. It may sound small in comparison to other islands, but do not be deceived, a week is not even enough to really explore this place especially with Malta’s unique but profound culture and history. Its  capital city is Valletta. The country shares its southern border with Tunisia and the Mediterranean Sea borders the north and east side of Malta. Not to mention its weather, the climate varies depending on where you are located on the island but most of it is either hot or cold year round with little seasonal variation. I guess you really have to go to find out which places are colder and hotter.

How to enjoy this Mediterranean Paradise?

First and foremost, know the weather and the knowledge will guide you what to wear. As mentioned before, its climate varies depending on the location you want to go. This place is blessed with sunlight even in winter so it would be best to bring SPFs, lip balms, and other protective gear against sunlight in addition to your usual winter wear.

Second, know the schedule of your visits because it may have an aligned feast or festivities in the place where you are going. It may be an advantage or disadvantage for you. Feasts may delay your travel but it can also be a great way to be exposed to their culture. For instance, it is a christian country. It is predominantly Catholic, hence many of its events happen all year-round.

“There is no such thing as a bad day of travel. Even the worst days are full of new experiences, and you can’t have a bad time in a place that’s different from home.”

-Rolf Potts, Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel

Lastly, figure out where you plan to stay. Choosing a place of sleep near your planned itinerary will be beneficial for you in the long run as you don’t have to worry about transportation as much. There are many accommodation options available that will surely suit your budget and preferences. But it will be best to personally choose and pre-book online to save time and be sure that you will have a place to stay for the duration of your trip.

Where to go first?

Mdina

It is an ancient walled city. If you want to see a real-life infrastructure of towns that you only see in historical movies, this may be the place for you. It will surely give you a warm yet old feeling with its light yellow to brown color.

Hypogeum

This is an underground temple consisting of halls, chambers, and passages carved from rocks in the bottom. It has three levels, the upper, middle, and lower level. Imagine how they were able to build such a temple with the resources they had at that time.

St. John’s Co Cathedral

From the outside, this is nothing but your basic cathedral with its simplistic design but what made it into a tourist spot are the materials used inside to design its interior. This cathedral is resplendent with carvings, paintings, and frescoes.
